CPD 2Are you intrigued by Indirect Procurement?

Are you an expert or a novice in this area?

Either way, our February event focuses on building category knowledge by exploring the differences and similarities between key Indirect Procurement categories. Are all indirect categories created equal? Or are they each genuinely unique?

Three seasoned category managers will give an overview of the key trends and dynamics of their respective areas (Marketing, Facilities Management and IT), and give insights on the challenges and upsides of operating in their area of expertise. The overviews will be followed by a Roundtable Q&A as our host for the evening looks to establish just how different these categories are in reality. This will be a highly interactive event, so please do come prepared with questions for the Q&A session.

CPD 2Our February branch event looks at how we, as procurement professionals, can better negotiate by understanding the art and science of selling.

Do you think the playing field between procurement and suppliers is level? Based on average companies how much more is invested in sales people training than their procurement counterparts

To be truly effective in our roles, adjusting our behaviours and applying a range of techniques to transform the way in which we interact with suppliers, helps us to gain deeper insights to drive better negotiation outcomes.

Tim Jenkins, Managing Director at Wheelspinner will address:

  • The level of trust that exists between a seller and buyer;
  • Relationship drivers;
  • Sales methodologies and techniques;
  • What kind of buyer you are and the buying signals you display.

CPD 2Would you like to be a buyer or are you in early career stage? Have you considered a career in procurement? Organisations (public, private and third sector) are recognising that good procurement and supply chain management not only provides the end user (customer/client) with greater value, it provides an unrivalled source of competitive advantage for the organisation. Substantial career prospects are available in procurement and supply across a range of industry sectors. Yet, not enough young professionals identify procurement as a career of choice. This means that employers often struggle to fill positions in procurement and supply chain management.

Come along to this free event in a beautiful location and be inspired by the opportunities that could bring you an enjoyable and rewarding career. #iBuy is a social media campaign launched by CIPS to showcase how diverse and interesting the role of a buyer can be.

CPD 2The CIPS Central London Branch is delighted to have a number of female professionals talk to us on the theme for International Women’s Day - ‘Press for Progress’. It celebrates women's achievements and pushes forward towards gender equality. There is a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity, to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

Each speaker will share their own experiences such as:

  • Background about themselves
  • Work experience and current role
  • Achievements
  • Activities conducted throughout their career (or via their organisations) towards gender equality
  • Any challenges along the way, how these were overcome, lessons learnt, with examples

The format of the day will consist of each speaker speaking for approximately 10 – 15 minutes, followed by a Q&A session, then further networking.

This will be an informal interactive discussion session with participation from the audience.

Photographic Images may be captured during this event organised by the CIPS Central London Branch Committee. The images will be used in Supply Management, LinkedIn, speaker organisations, websites and/or other media and publicity produced by CIPS.

CPD 2We welcome one of the new CIPS Knowledge Partners, TWS Partners to discuss how game theory can be a ‘game changer’ for Procurement.

With in house production decreasing in most industries, supply chains are becoming increasingly integrated and complex with companies becoming ever more reliant on suppliers’ flexibility and supplier driven product innovation.

Sebastian Moritz will explain how the application of game theory can help to manage this complexity, unlock Procurement’s potential and move its role from a reactive service provider to a highly strategic value driver driving bottom line results.

CPD 2Public tenders are highly regulated and complex processes to run. Even the best run organisations can make mistakes, which can be costly and lead to legal challenges. Companies bidding for public contracts can invest huge effort and resource competing in public tenders, all of which will be wasted if the bid is unsuccessful due to a deficient procurement process. The first part of the presentation will provide a “Need to Know” overview of how to bring and defend public procurement challenges.

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 is a ground-breaking law aiming to address slavery in the UK and in overseas supply chains, taking the form of bonded or forced labour, child labour, human trafficking or similar types of exploitation of vulnerable people. All organisations, whether involved in private or public procurement need to comply with the Modern Slavery Act. The second part of the presentation will be looking at Supply Chain Governance and how the UK is playing a leading role in tackling this global issue.

This presentation is aimed at both public and private procurement specialists.
